Phoenix desert pest management guidelines conform to research published by the University of Arizona Extension and the Arizona Office of Pest Management (OPM).
Sonoran Desert Climate & Pest Drivers
Phoenix experiences extreme desert summer temperatures exceeding 110°F. Heat drives Arizona Bark Scorpions (Centruroides sculpturatus), black widow spiders, and desert subterranean termites (Heterotermes aureus) toward air-conditioned home foundations. Summer monsoon rains cause sudden surges in mosquito breeding in retention basins.
